A delegation of nine people from Ukraine visited UNC on Dec. 14 to learn more about the United States’ higher education system. Their meeting at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health was hosted by the School’s Office of Global Health.

The visitors were invited to the U.S. as part the Department of State’s International Visitors Leadership Program and hosted in North Carolina by the International Affairs Council.

Participants in the meeting from the public health school included Anna Maria Siega-Riz, PhD, professor of epidemiology and nutrition an associate dean for academic affairs; Charletta Sims Evans, MEd, assistant dean for student affairs; and Francesca Florey, MA, director of the School’s Office of Global Health.

Visitors from Ukraine included Oleksandr Dumin, vice dean for pedagogical work in the Karazin Kharkiv National University’s School of Radio Physics; Mykhaylo Dyachenko, vice rector for international relations at Oles Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University; Roman Dychkovskyi, deputy vice rector for scientific affairs at National Mining University; Iryna Gagarina, director, Information and Image Center, Ministry of Education and Science; Sergii Khrapatyi, head, humanitarian section, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine; Vitaliy Lysenko, head of the international cooperations department at National Taras Shevchenko University; Volodymyr Sokol, adviser on foreign educational and research programs to rector of National Technical University Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute; Yevgen Sulima, first deputy minister, Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine; Lidiia Voloshchuk, member, strategic development committee, Odessa national Polytechnic University; and Daur Kukhba, adviser to rector on students’ international education programs, Donetsk National Technical University.
