School hosts health equity research webcast on early childhood development

More than 1,000 public health professionals, educators and policy makers from across the nation are scheduled to gather via the Internet June 4 to discuss early childhood development during the 19th annual National Health Equity Research Webcast.
 “Early Childhood: Investing in Our Children and Our Future” will be hosted by the Minority Health Project at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health and UNC Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, in association with UNC’s Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute. Speakers at the Tate-Turner-Kuralt Auditorium at UNC’s School of Social Work will include Sarah L. Kastelic, deputy director of the National Indian Child Welfare Association; Portia R. Kennel, executive director of Educare Learning Network; and Yvette Sanchez Fuentes, director of the Office of Head Start. They will present on native culture and its impact on child development; early childhood education as a primary prevention strategy; and Head Start’s role in addressing disparities.
