Strategic planning retreat explores financial loss and uncertainty amid environmental events

The UNC Center on Financial Risk in Environmental Systems (CoFiRES) held its sixth annual Strategic Planning Retreat at the Morehead Planetarium on Oct. 14. CoFiRES is a partnership between the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and UNC’s Institute for the Environment, which seeks to quantify the financial losses associated with extreme environmental events, such as droughts, floods, heatwaves and hurricanes.

UNC researchers to lead 2 centers for $170M NIH Nutrition for Precision Health Consortium

Understanding how people differ in both their metabolism and their bodily response to what they eat and drink is critical to tailoring diets for an individual’s optimal health. To that end, Gillings School researchers will direct both a $13 million Nutrition Precision Health Clinical Center and a $19 million Metabolomics and Clinical Assay Center.

Annual Water and Health Conference convenes global experts to learn and share the latest on water

The Water and Health Conference hosted by the Water Institute at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health has become the world’s largest annual international conference on water and health. This year’s conference, which was held virtually for the second time ever, brought together stakeholders from 122 countries around the world to advance their shared goal of increased access to water, sanitation and hygiene worldwide.

Dr. Beth Moracco honored with 2021 Edward Graham Kidder Faculty Service Award

The Edward Kidder Graham Award recognizes distinguished service by a UNC-Chapel Hill faculty member that benefits the University, North Carolina and the United States. The 2021 award was presented to Dr. Beth Moracco, associate professor of health behavior at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and associate director of the UNC Injury Prevention Research Center.

UNC-Chapel Hill named NIOSH Center of Excellence for Total Worker Health®

September 20, 2021
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has funded 10 Centers of Excellence for Total Worker Health®, which promote policies, programs and practices that integrate protection from work-related safety and health hazards with promotion of injury and illness prevention efforts to advance worker well-being. The new Carolina Center of Excellence in Total Worker Health and Well-Being is housed within the UNC-Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health.
