Public health school authors describe international health initiatives in NC Medical Journal

The current issue of the North Carolina Medical Journal (NCMJ) includes articles by a number of faculty and staff members and students at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. The issue, “International Health Initiatives in North Carolina,” highlights North Carolina-based activities to improve health around the world. Commentaries from nonprofit agencies, academic institutions and industry describe the global reach of these activities, as well as their relevance to the health of North Carolinians. The issue also includes a continuing series of articles on health care reform in North Carolina and an update on the health of children across the state. Original articles examine smoking policies at fairs and drive-time proximity to stroke centers. UNC public health school authors include Tom Ricketts, PhD, health policy and management professor and the journal’s editor-in-chief, Peggy Bentley, PhD, nutrition professor, and Miriam Labbok, MD, Professor of the Practice of maternal and child health and director of the Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute (CGBI); Emily Taylor, MPH, CGBI project manager; and maternal and child health graduate students Kristen Brugh and Anna Bauer.
