Bruce Fried, PhD

About

Bruce Fried, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy & Management.

His areas of research include quality improvement, the healthcare workforce, and comparative health systems.  Dr. Fried teaches courses in human resources management, leadership, organizational behavior, globalization and health, and international and comparative health systems.

He is the co-author of several books, including World Health Systems, Fundamentals of Human Resources in Healthcare, and Managing for Success: Human Resources in Healthcare.

Dr. Fried served as a Fulbright Senior Specialist with the Oswaldo Cruz Institute in the National School of Public Health in Rio de Janeiro where he helped redesign the Institute’s healthcare management curriculum.  Dr. Fried is also on the teaching faculty of Zayed University in Abu Dhabi and École des Hautes Études en Santé Publique, an international school of public health in France. He was a Founding Fellow and Visiting Professor at the African Institute for Healthcare Management at Strathmore Business School in Nairobi.

Prior to coming to UNC, Dr. Fried was on faculty at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Fried received his master’s degree in social service administration from the University of Chicago, and his PhD in health administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
