A message from
Barbara K. Rimer, DrPH
Dean and Alumni Distinguished Professor
UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health

Twenty years ago, Dr. William L. Roper founded the North Carolina Institute for Public Health to bring together the Gillings School’s resources to serve the public health practice community in North Carolina and disseminate the School’s research and scholarship. Since then, NCIPH’s work has ranged widely – from field epidemiology in hurricane-stricken counties, to public health leader development, to using geographic information systems to map social determinants of health – but our commitment to service has been a constant.

This 20th anniversary video is a celebration of our passion and commitment to the work of public health. Though we recognize the challenges and inequities facing North Carolina communities, we remain optimistic about the power of public health – and the public health practice community – to improve lives and the environment. Through NCIPH, we remain committed to responding to North Carolina’s needs. We also look forward to helping practitioners meet the needs of 21st century public health and Public Health 3.0.

Thank you for your partnership and your support of NCIPH and the Gillings School of Global Public Health.

Warm regards,

Barbara K. Rimer
