Every year, we send over 425 graduates into the world with the tools to solve complex public health problems.

Our Gillings School students have these skills, not only because they engage with our School’s world class faculty and superb resources, but also because they gain direct experience working with community partners during their practicum, or field experience. These partners give our students an unparalleled education through real-world projects within organizations and across communities; they also give students the support they need to succeed by providing excellent mentoring. Because of their efforts, our students are able to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it in practice, improving the health of communities in North Carolina and around the world.

In 2015, we celebrated these important collaborations between our students, faculty, staff and community partners.

For the first time ever, the Gillings School highlighted our partnerships across departments as students in Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Epidemiology, Health Behavior, Maternal and Child Health and Public Health Leadership showcased their practica through oral, poster and artifact presentations. All sessions took place throughout the Gillings School. Three Impact in Practice Awards were also presented to an outstanding student, faculty member and community partner/preceptor, based on nominations.
