Dissertation Research: exploring associations between gender norms and contraceptive usage over time for 2,100 couples in urban Nigeria using complex survey analysis techniques.
Honors/Awards: Royster Fellow – Chancellor’s Fellowship
Bio: Kashika is passionate about improving health for marginalized and vulnerable populations. Her Masters work at Emory University helped develop a CDC-funded surveillance system for women who experienced a stillbirth in the state of GA. She has previously worked as a consultant for the CDC evaluating injury and violence prevention programs as well as improving technical assistance for maternal and child health programs.
At UNC, Kashika is a Royster Chancellor’s Fellow. Through the fellowship, she had the opportunity to design and co-teach an interdisciplinary seminar course to 25 first year undergraduates at the university. She is minoring in Biostatistics and served as a TA for the Research Methods in MCH class in the fall of 2014. She is passionate about increasing the number of women with advanced statistical knowledge. On campus, she is involved with the Gender Based Violence Research Working group.
In her spare time, Kashika can be found conjuring spice blends and baking sweets from around the world.
