Bonnie Lyon (PhD, Weinberg Advisor) won a student poster award at the Gordon Research Conference on Disinfection Byproducts held at Mount Holyoke College in August 2009. The conference is a gathering of specialists, by invitation only, on interdisciplinary aspects of this field of research from across the world. Lyon was among a select group of students invited to participate. It was the clarity and originality of her presentation that was cited as the unanimous decision by the adjudicating panel in selecting her for the award.
Dr Benjamin Blount of the National Center for Environmental Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta presented Lyon the award for her work on the Relationship Between Natural Organic Matter Polarity and Disinfection Byproduct Formation and Speciation During Ultraviolet Treatment and Disinfection of Drinking Water. Dr. Blount served as the Gordon Research Conference Disinfection Byproduct Chair for 2009.
