Jeno Bratts, server systems group manager at the Instructional and Information Systems (IIS) Department, received the School of Public Health’s Staff Excellence Award for 2007. The annual monetary award and recognition is given to employees who exemplify outstanding work as measured by their initiative, leadership skills and willingness to do extra tasks when others need assistance.

Helen Nulty, computer systems administrator at IIS, said that Bratts consistently performs “above and beyond” the call of duty, relying on his wealth of experience and uncanny feel for how things work.

“Jeno’s problem-solving skills are second to none,” said Nulty. “He is not above trying every combination known to man to make things work. He leaves no stone unturned, no avenue unexplored, no twist or turn unexamined. He has an amazing strength of purpose.”

Linda Brezin, business manager at the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, likewise praised Bratts. “Whenever our department has a problem, Jeno is tireless and methodical in his review, yet makes it a point to be attentive to users’ schedules and the disruptions that any proposed upgrades would cause,” she said. “He is a worthy recipient of the award.”

Yet while Bratts feels proud and honored that he was selected, he insists that the award signifies not only his accomplishments, but the hard work and dedication of his staff and other IIS employees.

“I am pleased to be representing such wonderful colleagues,” he said. “The recognition will impact my group and my career for many years to come as we work toward building ‘technical excellence’ in supporting all faculty, staff, students and especially the outstanding leadership at the School of Public Health.”

Bratts has been an employee of the School for 22 years. Aside from the 2007 Staff Excellence Award, he is also a recipient of the 2006 IT Award and the 2007 Star Heels Award, both given by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bratts will be honored at a reception later this summer.
