Please join us for the Gillings’ Summer 2024 gAI Workshop Series!

All workshops are:

  • Open to Gillings faculty, students, and staff.
  • Aimed for beginners curious to explore how these technologies may help them in their work.
  • One hour in length, will be offered on Zoom and will be recorded.

Getting Started with AI in Research

  • Date/Time: July 25, 2024, 2-3 pm
  • Objective: Determine when to use gAI to aid your research projects.
  • Presenters:
    • Jordan Bryan, Ph.D., Post Doc Fellow in Biostats
    • Jaime O’brien, M.S., Research Compliance Coordinator
    • Will Vizuete, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering
  • Description: This workshop will explore ways to use gAI in ways to add efficiencies to research processes and workflows. It will include considerations for deciding when it may or may not be a good fit, and for ethical and policy implications including reliability, trustworthiness, privacy, bias and copyright. We will also showcase a Gillings research project that is using generative AI today! Please join us, you won’t want to miss this!

Getting Started with AI Prompts

  • Date/Time: June 25, 2024, 2-3 pm
  • Objective: Learn to create inputs (“prompts”) to AI tools that will lead to more relevant responses.
  • Presenter: Bryan C. Andregg, Associate Director, Systems and Security
  • Description: This workshop will provide attendees with a process to provide details that help AI tools return useful responses using the CREATE framework. We will also explore other factors such as ethical concerns including bias and hallucinations.
