Application Deadlines

Application deadlines are always the second Tuesday of the month in which they occur. See the table below for specific dates.

Degree Requirement

No specific degree level is required for admission into the Community Preparedness and Disaster Management Certificate Program. The application fee is $75.  Instructions on how to submit the fee will be given to you during the online application process. Full-time UNC employees may fill out this form to waive the fee.

Required Application Materials

All applicants to the Community Preparedness and Disaster Management Certificate Program must submit the following:

  • Current Resume
  • Essay. Prepare a two page (500 word) statement of purpose addressing the following: How will this certificate program at UNC-CH contribute to your projected career? We use a team based learning approach, and are looking for students who will benefit from and contribute to the learning environment. What do you bring to the table? Please provide any additional information that you think will strengthen your application.
  • Completion of online Graduate School application. You may start your application by logging into https://applynow.unc.edu/apply.
    Applications for the next academic year are available in August. A current email address is a required field on the application since all correspondence is conducted by email. If you have problems with the online form, call 919 962-HELP (919 962-4357) or submit an online help request at http://help.unc.edu/help/olhr/.


You will be required to upload a document to the college transcript section of your online application. If you do not have a college transcript, uploading a Word document indicating that a transcript does not apply is an acceptable alternative.

To qualify as a resident for tuition purposes, a person must have established legal residence (domicile) in North Carolina and maintained that legal residence for at least 12-months immediately prior to his or her classification as a resident for tuition purposes.
