Maternal and child health supplement provides strategies to strengthen the workforce

Dorothy Cilenti and Leslie deRosset, in the UNC Gillings Department of Maternal and Child Health, are among the co-editors of a special supplement to the Maternal and Child Health Journal titled “Developing and Strengthening the Current and Future MCH Public Health Workforce: Building Capacity, Aligning Systems and Addressing Emerging Challenges.” The articles cover a wide range of topics related to the work of providing continuing education and workforce development to those working in state and local maternal and child health.

Maternal and child health faculty receive joint innovative teaching award

Four faculty members in the Department of Maternal and Child Health have received an Innovative Teaching Award from the Association of Teachers of Maternal and Child Health to develop a new course on implementation research and practice for the Master of Public Health concentration in Maternal, Child and Family Health.

In the United States, mothers are dying. A recent America’s Health Rankings report listed the U.S. as having the highest maternal mortality rate in the world among developed countries. Now, with a total of $13 million in funding, three faculty members in the Gillings School will implement the Supporting Maternal Health Innovation Program.

Cilenti named interim health director for Orange County

March 2, 2017 Dr. Dorothy Cilenti has been named interim director of the Orange County health department, effective March 1. A clinical associate professor of maternal and child health at the Gillings School, Cilenti also directs the National Maternal Child Health Workforce Development Center.
