April 22, 2021 The Gillings School has announced the 2021 winners of four of the School's most prestigious awards – the Bernard G. Greenberg Alumni Endowment Award, the John E. Larsh Jr. Award for Mentorship, the Edward G. McGavran Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Harriet Hylton Barr Distinguished Alumni Award.
July 1, 2020 Drs. Kristin Reiter and Paula Song have collaborated on the seventh edition of Gapenski’s Healthcare Finance: An Introduction to Accounting and Financial Management, to be released this month.
June 5, 2020 Dr. Paula Song has been named the 2020 recipient of the John D. Thompson Prize for Young Investigators by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration.
April 26, 2019 Many patients who live in rural areas travel to urban hospitals for acute care. A recent study found that many of these patients subsequently obtain post-acute care from skilled nursing facilities that are not near their homes – and the further away the hospital, the less likely patients are to return to their home community for care.
May 1, 2017 Brystana Kaufman, MSPH, health policy and management student, is first author of an article selected as The Journal of Rural Health’s inaugural Article of the Year for 2016. “The Rising Rate of Rural Hospital Closures,” published in the journal’s winter 2016 print issue, was co-authored by researchers at UNC's Sheps Center, including Drs. Mark Holmes and George Pink, of the Gillings School.
