Woods to serve on EPA Board of Scientific Counselors subcommittee

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has selected Dr. Courtney Woods to serve on the Social and Community Science subcommittee of the EPA Board of Scientific Counselors (BOSC). This new subcommittee will lend expertise in support of the agency’s commitment to supporting communities and community science.

Woods brings science to N.C. communities’ fight against environmental hazards

For more than a decade, Dr. Courtney Woods has focused on participatory research – a method that allows her to tap local expertise to support communities experiencing environmental racism. With funding from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, she created the Environmental Justice Action Research Clinic. It will function like a legal clinic to provide timely technical support to local responses to critical environmental health concerns.

UNC Gillings faculty build community relations as Thorp Scholars

Sept. 5, 2018 Recently, assistant professor Dr. Alexandra Lightfoot graduated. Instead of gaining another degree, however, she was honored for completing the 2016-2018 Thorp Faculty Engaged Scholars program and conducting research that involves and benefits other communities.
