Several faculty at the School of Public Health have won funding to support new global health research initiatives.

Dr. Frieda Behets, Research Associate Professor in Epidemiology, has received funding from the National Institutes of Health-Fogarty International Center for her work, “Strengthening Bioethics Capacity and Justice in Health.” This will be used to support training and research in bioethics at the University of Kinshasa School of Public Health (Democratic Republic of Congo).

Other SPH faculty with ongoing Fogarty support include Dr. Steve Meshnick (Professor of Epidemiology, Microbiology, and Immunology), who receives funding for “Infectious Disease Epidemiology Training for Malawians,” and Dr. Barry Popkin (Professor of Nutrition and Adjunct Professor of Economics) and his project “International Training in Population, Health, and Aging.” Dr. Popkin has also recently received funding for “An Interdisciplinary Strategy for Obesity,” which will be identifying effective interventions for the prevention and treatment of obesity.

These are just a few of the SPH faculty engaged in global health research. For additional information on faculty research, please visit the website for the SPH Office of Global Health.
