Executive Master’s Program named top in U.S. for physician executives

For the second year in a row, the Executive Master’s Program in the Department of Health Policy and Administration has been named the top program for physician executives by Modern Healthcare magazine.
The magazine ranked programs that award MBA’s or similar degrees in courses that focus on physicians on five key factors: length of time to complete, cost of total tuition, number of days students must spend on campus, age of each program, and the number of total graduates. The five rankings were then totaled, with the Executive Master’s Program receiving the lowest overall (best) score. “This recognition continues to reinforce our belief that our executive program is a great fit for physicians and other health professionals who want an affordable and highly accessible first-rate education,” said Jim Porto, PhD, program director. The list of schools included Duke, Yale, Harvard, Carnegie Mellon, University of Alabama at Birmingham and nine others. All of the programs ranked offer long-distance learning programs and are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). The Executive Master’s Program offers two degrees: Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master in Healthcare Administration (MHA). The coursework for both degrees is offered primarily online, with some classes and workshops conducted on campus. The program also enrolls two groups of students per year – one in August and another in December – thereby allowing students to choose the schedule that best fits their personal or professional needs.
