Join Ambassador Anthony C.E. Quainton for a talk, “The Militarization and Marginalization of Diplomacy,” on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 6:45 p.m. in the Joan Heckler Gillings Auditorium (133 Rosenau Hall). The talk will be moderated by Theodore Leinbaugh, PhD.
Quainton has served as U.S. ambassador to the Central African Republic, Nicaragua, Kuwait and Peru, as well as serving as director of the State Department’s Office for Combating Terrorism and director general of the U.S. Foreign Service. Since 2003, he has taught at the School of International Service at American University as Distinguished Diplomat-in-Residence. His lecture is part of UNC’s Peace, War and Defense/Comparative Literature 489 course, “Epic, Empire and Diplomacy,” which will be offered in spring 2018 and as a UNC Study Abroad program in London in summer 2018.
Leinbaugh is professor of English, comparative literature, and Peace, War and Defense.
The event is sponsored by the Transatlantic Forum for Education and Diplomacy, the Association of Marshall Scholars, the Peace, War and Defense curriculum, and Joan Heckler Gillings.
