The Office of Human Resources, the Office of Student Affairs and the Dean’s Office have partnered to create an all-day, School-sponsored professional development event for staff at the Gillings School. Workshop speakers representing the UNC Office of Human Resources and UNC Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, among others, will present one-hour presentations on topics such as time management and communication.

TIME MANAGEMENT TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES
Presented by William Frey, professional development specialist at the UNC Office of Human Resources
Do you feel like you are wasting precious time during the day? Need organizational tips to help stay on task? This presentation will assist staff members in boosting daily productivity and sharpening decision-making skills. Learn how to eliminate interruptions and delegate low-priority tasks to others, while simultaneously protecting high-priority tasks and ensuring they are completed well and on time.

RAISING CULTURAL COMPETENCY IN OUR EVERY DAY
Presented by Sharbari Day, assistant director for education and special initiatives at the UNC Diversity and Inclusion Office
This session provides space to engage in a discussion on the culture, power and privilege within learning/work environments. The workshop will introduce Gillings School staff members to concepts such as cultural competency, power and strategies to increase self-awareness and self-reflections in everyday work and life.

SHARPEN PRESENTATION SKILLS WITH TOASTMASTERS INTERNATIONAL
Presented by Karen Demby, Bell Tower Toastmasters
Whether you are presenting to students, colleagues or the public, your presentations should inspire your audience and not bore them to sleep. This session will assist staff in preparing speeches/presentations that are organized and impactful to their audience. Toastmasters will provide an opportunity to practice impromptu speaking and learn about how to lead a successful meeting.

CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE
Presented by Anne Bryan, assistant dean for student affairs at UNC School of Education
Are you looking for ways to communicate better with someone in your office or on your team? This session will give offer valuable tools to help with interactions that may include situations that are emotionally charged. The session also will provide tools to assist staff members in offering a synergistic, professional response that increases commitment to implement decisions. Try coming into the conversation with a different perspective – and you may get a different result.
