See Us. Hear Us.: Voices of Black College Athletes Virtual Conversation

October 25, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Center of Sport Business and Analytics In Partnership with Advancement of Blacks in Sports Inc. To Host Virtual Community Conversation: See Us. Hear Us.: Voices of Black College Athletes

This event qualifies for 1.5 hours of credit toward the Gillings School’s annual inclusive excellence training requirement for faculty and staff.

The road toward eliminating racial disparities and achieving racial equity and equality for Black athletes is long and arduous, with the injustices many communities of color experience being an all too familiar narrative. Racism and discrimination significantly contribute to mental health and wellness. The mental health challenges that come with participation and management of big-time college sports continue to be a priority for athletes, coaches, staff, and administrators. Dr. Deborah Stroman, professor at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health and founder of the Center of Sport Business and Analytics (CSBA) and Advancement of Blacks In Sports Inc. (ABIS), will host a virtual community conversation on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, from 7 pm-8:30 pm. This conversation will examine the perspective and possibilities for Black athletes enrolled at historically white universities. The community can join the conversation by registering for free.

The conversation will be moderated by Stroman, who guides and instructs faculty, staff, and students in racial equity and racism analysis. Highly motivated to share her journey and life lessons, Dr. Stroman is a national speaker on topics such as sports business, leadership, entrepreneurship, and racial equity.
