Gun Violence and Safety Panel with Screening of “Newtown”

Recent events have brought issues of gun violence and gun safety to the forefront of conversations across the United States. Join this event for an opportunity to engage in conversation regarding the complex social and public health issues surrounding gun violence. The event will open with a panel discussion on gun violence and safety featuring experts in public health, medicine, policy, community policing and advocacy. Following the panel, there will be a screening of the documentary “Newtown,” which tells the story of the aftermath of the deadly mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Panelists will include:
– Dr. Tamera Coyne-Beasley, UNC School of Medicine
– Rep. Marcia Morey, North Carolina House of Representatives
– Chief Chris Blue, Chapel Hill Police Department
– Dr. Stephen Marshall, UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health
