Screening: Documentary on Sewage in Brazil

January 31, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Grace Beeler, a graduate student at North Carolina State University, recently directed and produced a documentary film titled, “What Comes Out Goes to the Government: Condominial Sewerage in Brazil.” She was inspired to take on this project during a class on water and sanitation in lesser developed countries taught by Dale Whittington, PhD, professor of environmental sciences and engineering in the Gillings School.

Beeler set out on a 4-year quest to gather and translate knowledge on an innovative solution to the global urban sanitation crisis. The result is a visually stunning virtual study tour through Brazil that examines condominial sewerage, a viable option for providing piped sanitation to overcrowded urban areas.

After the free documentary viewing, there will be a question and answer session with Beeler, Whittington and Sarah Long, a graduate student in environmental sciences and engineering at UNC Gillings. The documentary trailer is available online.
