Computational Methods for Analyzing Big Data in the Social Sciences

In this workshop hosted by the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science, participants will get an overview of various aspects of computational research methods. Specifically, this session will provide a brief overview of the most frequently-used computational methods in communication and media research, as well as an explanation of the expertise required to apply these methods effectively. Most of the session will be devoted to a hands-on introduction to a few basic computational methods using the programming language R. This will be oriented toward beginners having no prior experience with computational methods.

Presenter

Deen Freelon is an associate professor in the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who studies political uses of social media and other digital technologies.

This class will be offered via Zoom ONLY. Once registration closes, no late registrations will be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS!
