EMPower Training

EMPower Training was a CDC-funded initiative aimed at improving evidence-based maternity practices supportive of optimal infant nutrition.

The initiative provided training and technical assistance (TA) to hospitals to advance the capacity of maternity care staff and health care providers to implement these practices in U.S. hospitals. By providing skills-based competency training on these practices, hospitals and maternity care centers ensured that related policies and procedures are implemented safely, as intended, for each mother and her infant.

EMPower Training Digital Tool

The EMPower Training team developed a training manual to complement the individualized TA provided by a dyad of experts comprised of a breastfeeding coach and a quality improvement coach. The training manual entitled, Trainer Manual: Comprehensive training materials to implement skills-based competency in maternity care and breastfeeding (EMPower Training Trainer Manual), is available as a free download and is accompanied by the EMPower Training Digital Tool.

The EMPower Training Digital Tool is a series of modules that provides explanatory information on best practices to successfully implement the EMPower Training Trainer Manual. The tool is designed to give you small, digestible sections that can be referenced as needed. We recommend that you complete all 8 modules to help prepare you for training others in your facility. The EMPower Team recommends that all eight modules be viewed in order so as to best orient you to the EMPower Training Trainer Manual and accompanying resources. It might also be helpful to have these related resources open for reference while viewing the modules.
