ENRICH Carolinas aims to help maternity hospitals and surrounding communities in North and South Carolina along their journey in implementing the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. Funded by the Duke Endowment, the project is working with 20 hospital communities through 2020 to provide breastfeeding and quality improvement technical assistance directly to hospital teams, prenatal care and child care facilities. The project aims to improve maternity care practices and increase breastfeeding initiation and duration rates in the Carolinas.

Our breastfeeding and quality improvement coaches were able to visit 17 hospitals in-person over the summer. Each hospital culture is unique and we have truly enjoyed getting to know the teams in this project. We are looking forward to hosting these hospital teams in Chapel Hill for a learning collaborative meeting where we will share relevant content from experts in the field to inspire, engage and educate.  We regret that we had to reschedule this week’s gathering due to Hurricane Florence, yet we are happy to already have a new date on the calendar. We are thinking of everyone that will potentially be affected by this storm’s water and winds. Stay safe! When we do gather, teams will be able to participate in interactive sessions to gain insights into their specific situations from invited experts, including representatives from Baby-Friendly USA. Stay tuned as we share progress in newsletters to come.
