Breastfeeding Exclusive Summer 2020 - Carolina BEBES
Carolina BEBES Update
Last fall, the student organization Carolina BEBES held their annual “baby shower”, a fun way to engage the campus community and raise awareness for their diaper drive. Through the diaper drive, BEBES was able to donate several boxes of diapers to the Sandhills Food Bank, which serves families in need in Moore, Richmond, Lee and Scotland counties.
In the spring semester, BEBES hosted an informational session for the Mary Rose Tully Training Initiative. The session was well attended and a record number of students applied to the program! Unfortunately, the remaining BEBES meetings and events came to halt in March when campus was shut down due to the pandemic. BEBES was in the early stages of planning a public health week event, which will hopefully be rescheduled for next spring.
Natalie Ostrowski, a second-year master of public health student in the Nutrition department, is the new BEBES president for the 2020/2021 academic year. Natalie was an active member of BEBES last year and is excited to continue promoting birth and breastfeeding education on campus. Undergraduate student Megan Ramsey continues as the treasurer. While there is uncertainty about what this year will hold, whether in person or online, Natalie and Megan are excited to continue with the important work of BEBES!
