EMPower Training Update

Funded by the CDC, the EMPower Training Initiative works to enhance the knowledge and skills of maternity care staff and offers enrolled hospitals technical assistance and training related to the skills-based competency requirements for Step 2 of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative. All participating hospitals have attended in-person training and have been progressing well on completing their staff training by August 31, 2019.

The EMPower Training management team has been working to create an online version of the in-person training session so that hospitals not enrolled in this initiative might benefit from the lessons learned from this project. The online training tool is expected to provide a hospital with the techniques, tools and resources needed to successfully carry out clinical skills training related to optimal maternity care practices supportive of breastfeeding, including verification and documentation of demonstrated skills by staff. Stay tuned for future updates on this resource, anticipated to be published by September of this year.
