February 10, 2023 A $2.5 million grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute will allow researchers from UNC-Chapel Hill and Penn State to examine the genetic underpinnings of heart attack and stroke in Hispanic populations from across the Americas.

HIV research in the time of COVID-19: Chunyan Li studies barriers to PrEP in Guangdong and a unique intervention
February 6, 2023 Chunyan Li is a social and behavioral researcher in the Department of Health Behavior at the Gillings School applying socially innovative and community-engaged approaches to promote public health in global settings. For her dissertation, she worked with UNC Project-China to assess barriers to PrEP in the province of Guangdong. She also tested a phone app intervention to improve HIV/sexual health care.

Gillings study shows updated bivalent boosters are more effective at preventing hospitalization and death from omicron
January 25, 2023 Researchers at the Gillings School found that bivalent boosters are more effective than original monovalent boosters at preventing COVID-19-related hospitalization and death, according to a new study in The New England Journal of Medicine.
UNC researchers to use $3 million grant to improve cervical cancer screening and treatment
December 16, 2022 The National Cancer Institute has awarded UNC researchers a five-year, $3 million grant to help develop studies to assess approaches to scalable, cost-effective screening and treatment strategies to prevent cervical cancer among women living with HIV in low- and middle-income countries and in underserved communities in the U.S.
