New study finds link between teenage drinking and high-grade prostate cancer later in life

August 23, 2018 A new study has found a link between early-life alcohol consumption and aggressive, high-grade prostate cancer. The study also found that heavy cumulative alcohol consumption over the course of a man’s life had a similar association with this type of prostate cancer.

Study finds behavioral changes insufficient to prevent early childhood obesity

August 16, 2018 Results from the longest and largest obesity prevention intervention ever tested in young children showed that children and their families in low-income communities were able to make some sustainable behavioral changes to their diet and activity level. In the end, however, rates of early childhood obesity were unchanged.

Hursting’s 2016 study among most cited

July 19, 2018 A study by Dr. Stephen Hursting has been recognized as one of the most-cited papers of 2016 in all American Association for Cancer Research journals. The study was published in May 2016 in the journal Cancer Prevention Research.

Styblo, Wu awarded CEHS pilot study grants

June 22, 2018 Drs. Miroslav Styblo (nutrition) and Di Wu (biostatistics) were awarded 2018-2019 Pilot Projects Program grants by the UNC Center for Environmental Health and Susceptibility (CEHS).

Ammerman’s project, Good Bowls, offers recipe for health equity

June 15, 2018 Dr. Alice Ammerman and her team of current and former nutrition students have launched Good Bowls, a new public health initiative that aims to provide better access to nutritionally valuable food for lower-income consumers, while creating economic opportunities for local farmers and food entrepreneurs.

Five UNC Gillings students win recognition from ASN
