Study confirms that more activity, less sitting, reduces mortality risk

A new study led by Dr. Kelly Evenson reinforced findings that regular physical activity and less sedentary behavior reduces the risk of mortality.
The study, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, used an accelerometer to assess participants' physical activity and sedentary behavior.

Alumnus honored with Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers

Dr. Matthew Wheeler, Gillings School alumnus and CDC researcher, received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the highest honor bestowed by the United States government upon science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers. President Barack Obama announced the award for Wheeler and 101 other American scientists on Jan. 9.

Dusetzina named to National Academies report committee

Dr. Stacie Dusetzina has been confirmed as a committee member for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) report titled “Ensuring Patient Access to Affordable Drug Therapies.” The committee is charged with recommending policy actions that could address drug price trends, improve patient access to affordable and effective treatments, and encourage innovations that address significant needs in health care.
