Dr. Ed Baker

Ed Baker Jr., MD, MPH, will be one of three speakers featured on a webcast hosted by the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m.

Baker, research professor of health policy and management at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and director of the School’s N.C. Institute for Public Health (NCIPH), will join Jack Thompson, MSW (University of Washington at Seattle) and Bernard Turnock, MD, MPH (University of Illinois at Chicago) in presenting “Are We Prepared? Lessons Learned from the Last Decade of Preparedness Education and a Look to the Future.”

Baker, Thompson and Turnock were guest editors of the November/December 2010 Public Health Reports Special Supplement on Public Health Preparedness that focuses on using the lessons learned from the Centers for Public Health Preparedness to inform current and future education and training efforts.

“As one of the first Centers for Public Health Preparedness funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2000, UNC has been a national leader in public health preparedness training for more than a decade,” Baker said. “Our program, led by Dr. Pia MacDonald [research associate professor of epidemiology and director of the N.C. Center for Public Health Preparedness], will continue to serve North Carolina public health workers and others across the nation for years to come.”

The webcast will be viewable at the NCIPH offices at 400 Roberson Street in Carrboro, N.C. To register to watch the program online, or for more information, visit www.publichealthreports.org.
