About

Dr. Timothy Jay Carney currently serves as the Associate Director, for the Office of Informatics and Information Resource Management (OIIRM) within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Tim's previous affiliations include serving as Director of Health Policy Research, Data Science and Analytics at the Satcher Health Leadership Institute-Morehouse School of Medicine (SHLI-MSM) (2018-2019) and as Senior Director, Data Analytics and Public Health Informatics (DAPHI) at the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) (2017-2018). He was also a Post-Doctoral Fellow and Assistant Professor for Public Health Informatics here at UNC Gillings, where he taught graduate-level informatics courses and conducted applied informatics research (2012-2107) and he now serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor.

Tim is also the Founder and Chief Advisor of the Global Health Equity Intelligence Collaborative (GHEIC), LLC (est. 2014). GHEIC, LLC seeks to leverage innovative technology as a tool to foster empowered and smart health practices for eliminating health disparities, achieving health equity, and addressing the Social Determinants of Health.
