Dr. Becker-Dreps is an associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Gillings School; she also is director of the UNC Program in Nicaragua and associate director of the Office of International Activities. Her research focuses on childhood diarrhea and the evaluation of vaccine effectiveness. She has evaluated the impact of rotavirus immunization programs in Nicaragua and the United States and currently is conducting studies to understand why rotavirus vaccines have lower effectiveness in low-income settings. She also has evaluated the impact of pneumococcal immunization programs in Nicaragua.
