About

Shelley Hoekstra (she/her) is a Training Associate with the North Carolina Institute of Public Health (NCIPH) in the Workforce Training and Education section. Before coming to NCIPH, she spent many years “on the ground” as a public health nurse and hospital lactation consultant. She graduated from UNC Gillings in 2014 with her MPH in Maternal and Child Health, where her mind was opened to vastness of the world of public health work. She loves supporting other health care workers and public health leaders in her role at NCIPH. She has a strong interest in reproductive and pediatric health and will gladly talk your ear off about birth control methods, maternity care or childhood vaccine schedules. When not working, you will most likely find her with her husband and two rambunctious young daughters: exploring outside, eating delicious food or reading a good book.
