About

Shelah S. Bloom, ScD Adjunct Associate Professor, is a gender and health expert with 30 years of experience conducting mixed methods research and program and policy evaluations globally. Her work focuses on gender-based violence (GBV), sexual & reproductive health & rights (SRHR), maternal health, and HIV and AIDS. Until 2018, she was Assistant Professor in Maternal and Child Health, and Senior Technical Advisor for Gender on the MEASURE Evaluation project at the Carolina Population Center. As an independent consultant since 2018, she has worked with UN Women, UNAIDS, Save the Children, Plan International, and other organizations on a range of projects including leading a national GBV needs assessment in Lesotho, evaluating a UN Joint Global Program on violence against women data, conducting a qualitative study on adolescent parent use of maternal health services in Nigeria, and developing the monitoring and evaluation framework for the EU/UN Spotlight Initiative to End Violence against Women and Girls. Currently, she is conducting a research study on intersectionality and GBV in Central Asia, with the UN Women Regional Office.
