Melva Fager Okun, DrPH

Adjunct Assistant Professor Department of Health Behavior

Melva Fager Okun retired from Prevention Partners in 2014 after more than a decade with the organization. She now spends considerable time with previous Prevention Partners interns and staff that she had supervised, assisting them with networking and finding employment. Supervising and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students was an important part of her almost 30 year public health career.

She also has extensive experience training healthcare professionals and working with hospital administrators, health directors and boards of health on environmental and health issues. Dr. Okun was integral in helping North Carolina hospitals develop and implement 100 percent tobacco-free policies; indeed, N.C. hospitals led the nation in this initiative.
