About

Destiny James, MPH is a native of Denmark, SC. She earned her Master of Public Health in Health Behavior at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. She completed her undergraduate studies at University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL where she also studied public health. Destiny has a passion for community engagement, health promotion, disease prevention, and racial and health equity as shown through her work in cancer awareness programming in rural South Carolina in honor of her late father and her extensive work in public housing, targeting low-income youth through educational programs. While a graduate student, she has had the pleasure of serving on the Andrea Harris Social, Economic, Environmental, and Health Equity Task Force, geared towards addressing health disparities in communities of color disproportionately affected by COVID-19, as well as conducting research on PrEP use in women in North Carolina. Destiny joins NCIPH as the Community Engagement Coordinator and will be providing project management for several technical assistance projects as well as working to identify racial and health inequities in project work. Outside of work, she enjoys nature walks, watching Dallas Cowboys football, and operating her one-stop design shop business, Bands Plus, in which she creates custom apparel, accessories, and more.
