About

I research the social and cultural determinants of substance use, and the impacts of policy on downstream health equity. My current work focuses on opioid use in rural areas of the United States, as part of the Rural Opioid Initiative - a multi-state study centered around understanding and ameliorating opioid use. I use qualitative and quantitative methods to shed light on opioid and injection drug use in Appalachia, Ohio, and explore how COVID-19 has impacted substance use tendencies and receipt of care. These preliminary evaluations will inform future intervention strategies. I also have interests in the impacts of socioeconomic status on health, stigma reduction, implementation science, tobacco control, and infectious disease.
