About

Andrea Des Marais serves as project manager for multiple studies on alternate methods of cervical cancer screening, including HPV self-sampling among low-income women. Her training includes both quantitative and qualitative methods as well as project evaluation, intervention development and planning, and social marketing. She has previously worked with low-resource high school students and Latina lay health advisors in North Carolina. Previous to obtaining her MPH, Andrea lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where she coordinated an international network of youth activists, and in San Francisco, where she worked on the health inequities documentary "Unnatural Causes."

Staff/Administrative Duties

Ms. Marais has managed North Carolina-based studies investigating self-collection for HPV testing among low income women and assessing urine-based HPV testing. She is currently managing an NCI/NIH-funded trial assessing the use of HPV self-collection to increase cervical cancer screening uptake among underscreened women.
