Dr. Brooke Nezami is a behavioral scientist with expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of behavioral weight control interventions. Her research focuses on using technology to increase adherence and improve dietary behaviors and physical activity among young adults, adults, and families with young children. Dr. Nezami’s research interests include smartphone-based interventions for weight control, just-in-time adaptive interventions (JITAIs), and using technology to adapt and disseminate weight control interventions for larger reach.
Currently, Dr. Nezami is Principal Investigator of a National Cancer Institute-funded grant that uses reinforcement learning to improve message tailoring for dietary and activity behaviors within mobile JITAIs. In addition, she is Co-Principal Investigator of a Gillings Innovation Laboratory award that is using generative artificial intelligence to improve message tailoring and engagement within a smartphone-delivered weight loss program for young adults.
