Dollar stores are starting to offer fresh food after years of criticism

Dollar store chains are selling fresh groceries at some stores after steady feedback that they don't provide enough healthy food options for their customers — who often rely on the stores as a primary source of groceries. However, Dr. Barry Popkin notes that only a small percentage of Dollar General and Family Dollar stores are selling fresh food and the assortment of items they are offering is narrow.
