CHAPEL HILL – The National Public Health Leadership Development Network has awarded its highest honor, the Balderson Lifetime Public Health Leadership Award, to Dr. Hugh Tilson, clinical professor of epidemiology and health policy at UNC’s School of Public Health.Tilson, also senior adviser to the school’s dean, is on the faculty of the school’s Public Health Leadership Program and advises leadership programs within the N.C. Institute for Public Health, the service and outreach arm of the school.

Additionally, Tilson has been an integral part of the planning and broadcast team of Public Health Grand Rounds, a series sponsored by the school in partnership with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The award was presented to Tilson at the recent National Public Health Leadership Development Network’s annual meeting in St. Louis. It is named for Tom Balderson, a champion of public health who was a mentor to the development of state, regional and national public health leadership institutes, as well as the National Public Health Leadership Development Network, through his work at the CDC’s Public Health Practice Program Office.
