Three postdoctoral students associated with UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health have received the University’s Postdoctoral Award for Research Excellence, given in recognition of their promise as researchers.

They are Kimberly Powers, postdoctoral fellow in the departments of epidemiology and medicine; Pengcheng Xun, research associate in the research group of nutrition associate professor Ka He, ScD; and Laura Widman, a clinical psychologist and postdoctoral fellow in HIV/STD prevention, working under the mentorship of Carol Golin, MD, associate professor of health behavior and health education.

 
The plaque and monetary prize associated with the award will be presented to the winners in an award ceremony and showcase of their research on Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. at the Carolina Club on the UNC campus. Barbara Entwisle, PhD, Kenan Distinguished Professor of sociology and Vice Chancellor for Research, and Douglas Cyr, PhD, chair of the advisory committee on postdoctoral scholars, will make the presentations.
