Developing professional skills and making appropriate connections is important in making your public health experience a success.

Career Services offers key resources to help students and recent graduates develop and meet their career goals.

Support is provided at the Gillings School of Global Public Health through the Office of Student Affairs and  University Career Services  with appointments are available in either location.  For alumni, comprehensive career services are available through the Director of Student Services, Gregory Bocchino as well as through General Alumni Association.

Career Services for students from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health is offered through various resources at both the school and department levels.

Schedule an Appointment with Career Services Counselors

Career Services are available to public health students and alumni through the Office of Student Affairs. Additional support is available to students and recent grads through University Career Services to help with all career development needs. University Career Services is located on the second floor of Hanes Hall.

Make an appointment for individualized career development and job search skills support, including:

  • resume/CV  and cover letter critiques

  • access to web-based informational resources including the alumni directory and public health job databanks

Preparing for your job search may feel like a complicated and daunting task, but the following resources can help you to simplify the process.

Start early– we recommend you create a draft of your resume and/or curriculum vitae during your first year.  Keep this document updated with all of your research projects, class projects, employment opportunities, and volunteer experiences while at school.

Careerolina Job Search DatabaseThe UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health is pleased to partner with University Career Services to help students connect with employers for your job, fellowship, and internship opportunities. Careerolina will allow you to search opportunities, upload and post job search documents, view a calendar and register for career-related events, and communicate your employment interests with our office.

Careerolina includes an employer contact database with nearly 17,000 contacts and you can explore an archive of around 50,000 previously-posted positions (on a tab called “expired positions”) to widen your network of potential employers

Employment Databases

  • Postings for current students or recent graduates (< 6 months out) – We are pleased to offer this service through Careerolina, part of the NACElink Network. The NACElink Network is a non-profit job posting service provided through an alliance of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), the DirectEmployers Association, Symplicity Corporation and numerous collaborating colleges and universities across the country.Click on the link to get started.
  • Postings for alumni – The UNC General Alumni Association provides a service for employers with opportunities for experienced hires. Scroll down to “Add a job opening” for members or non-members.

Career and Internship Fair – We invite you to attend this annual event attracts showcase your opportunities to UNC graduate and undergraduate students from Public Health, Medicine, Pharmacy, Social Work and other schools. Click on the link for information about this year’s event.

On-Campus Recruiting – We will be happy to arrange accommodations for you to interview students on site in Chapel Hill. This service includes advertising your opportunity, resume collection, interview scheduling, parking, and your interview space.

Information Sessions – We will coordinate and publicize an information session about your organization and opportunities. Simply contact us to arrange the details.

Resume Referral – Can’t make it to campus? We will advertise your opportunity, collect resumes and ship them to you for off-campus consideration. Log in to Careerolina, post your job, and request to receive online applications.

Career Volunteering – Offer support to students as they work through the career and job search process by participating in workshops and events sponsored through OSA – Career Services. Volunteer opportunities may include serving on career panels, participating in our “Resume Rescue” critiquing or mock interview events, or offering workshops on job search skills. This is a great way to get name recognition for your organization while providing a valuable service to the next generation of public health professionals. Contact us to get involved!
