In support of the work of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, and in honor of Dennis Gillings, PhD, CBE, the partners of Smith, Anderson, Blount, Dorsett, Mitchell & Jernigan, LLP, have established the Dennis Gillings Leadership Endowment Fund.

Smith Anderson’s gift was made in honor of Gillings’ recent retirement as executive chairman of Quintiles, the company he founded in 1982. Gillings also was a professor of biostatistics at the School from 1971 to 1988.

The new fund will continue and expand on support that was first pledged to the School in honor of Gillings in 2009 with the creation of the Smith Anderson Biostatistics Fellowship.

The augmented fund also will encourage innovation at the Gillings School and accelerate solutions to a variety of emerging public health issues that demand nimble responses.

“We are grateful for this gift that honors Dennis and two of his passions – biostatistics and faster solutions to problems,” said Barbara Rimer, DrPH, Alumni Distinguished Professor and dean of the Gillings School. “The partners at Smith Anderson are generous, and we are indebted to them for multiplying Dennis’ impact in public health.”
