Coleman to present ICBL’s Van Deenen Lecture in Helsinki
September 20, 2017
Rosalind Coleman, MD, professor of nutrition at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and of pediatrics in the School of Medicine, has been selected to deliver the prestigious L. Van Deenen Lecture at the 2018 International Conference on the Bioscience of Lipids (ICBL), to be held Sept. 4-7, 2018, in Helsinki, Finland.
The lecture, which is the highlight of the conference, is offered to a lipid researcher for outstanding and long-term contributions to the field.
Coleman will speak on “Compartmentalization of Fatty Acid Metabolism and Lipid Pathways.”
“We are incredibly proud of the contributions to the field of lipid metabolism that Rosalind has made over the years,” said Elizabeth Mayer-Davis, PhD, Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor of nutrition and department chair. “Here in the Department of Nutrition, she has shared her expertise through her extensive mentorship and teaching, for which I am very grateful.”
A graduate of Radcliffe College at Harvard University and Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, Coleman has been a UNC faculty member since 1991. Her research has led to better understanding and treatment of disorders that involve disturbed lipid metabolism, including obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
Established in 1953, the ICBL provides an international forum for the presentation and discussion of fundamental investigations in all aspects of lipid research and related applications. The annual plenary lecture is held in tribute to Laurens L.M. van Deenen (1928-1994), an internationally respected Dutch pioneer of lipid research.
