Siega-Riz named epidemiology associate chair

Anna Maria Siega-Riz, PhD, has been named associate chair of the Department of Epidemiology, effective Oct. 1, 2008, department chair, Andrew Olshan, PhD, has announced. Siega-Riz, an associate professor of epidemiology and of nutrition, is head of the department’s reproductive epidemiology program and director of the reproductive, perinatal and pediatric epidemiology training program. She also has served as head of the nutrition department’s epidemiology division. Seiga-Riz received a bachelor’s of science in public health and doctor of philosophy in nutrition, with a minor in epidemiology, from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the Carolina Population Center and has been on the faculty in the School of Public Health since 1995. As associate chair, she will work with the department’s faculty, staff and students on an array of priorities related to the department’s research and teaching mission. She also will play a central role in strengthening the department’s relations with other departments, with the School of Medicine and with UNC centers.
