September 22, 2010 | |
A number of UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health faculty members will make presentations at the 10th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, held Sept. 21-24 in London.
UNC presenters include Shrikant Bangdiwala, PhD, research professor at the biostatistics department’s Collaborative Studies Coordinating Center; Carri Casteel, PhD, research assistant professor of epidemiology; Carol Runyan, PhD, professor of health behavior and health education in the public health school and of pediatrics, in UNC’s School of Medicine, and director of the UNC Injury Prevention Research Center (IPRC); and Andres Villaveces, MD, MPH, PhD, research assistant professor of epidemiology at the IPRC. Safety 2010, co-sponsored by the World Health Organization, is the major conference bringing together stakeholders in the prevention of unintentional injuries and violence from around the world to debate, discuss and exchange information and experiences.
The conference theme, “Safe and Equitable Communities,” was chosen to reflect the disproportionate burden from almost all types of injuries that falls on poorer communities within countries, between countries and even between global regions. The conference programme will cover all aspects of injuries and safety. More information is available at www.safety2010.org.uk.
