Ivan Rusyn, MD, PhD, professor of environmental sciences and engineering at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, has been named chair of the Society of Toxicology’s board of publications for a one-year term, effective May 1. “This is yet another affirmation of the extent to which Dr. Rusyn’s high level of scholarship is recognized in the toxicology community,” said Michael Aitken, PhD, professor and chair of the environmental sciences and engineering department. The Society of Toxicology, founded in 1961, is a not-for-profit scientific society, representing professionals and scholars from academic institutions, government and industry who practice toxicology in the U.S. and abroad. Toxicology is the study of the adverse effects of chemical, physical or biological agents on living organisms and the ecosystem, including the prevention and amelioration of such adverse effects.
The Society’s publications board determines editorial policy for all its technical publications, including Toxicological Sciences, its official premier, peer-reviewed journal.”I am honored to be appointed to this position,” Rusyn said. “The Board plays an important role in the Society by overseeing one of the main toxicological journals and other publications. Continued excellence of the publications associated with the Society of Toxicology is critical for maintaining its prestige.”
