Leaders inspire and challenge.

Gillings Visiting Professors are invited or competitively selected from think tanks, businesses, nonprofit organizations or academia. Their assignments have a focused scope of work and attempt to solve an important public health problem. A new round of competitively selected GVPs is not anticipated in the near term, but ideas are always welcome.
The Gillings Visiting Professorship lets Shelia Leatherman, MSW, focus a portion of UNC's public health research on microcredit and its impact on global health.

Executives in residence bring experiences and points of view that are not traditionally available in schools of public health. Most will have founded or led significant organizations. Many will be entrepreneurs. Their value includes expertise in planning for sustainability of programs and
connections to new groups of public health funders and supporters.
The School anticipates and will pursue additional leadership support, such as visiting professors sponsored by foundations or companies to tackle problems of mutual interest to the School and the sponsor.
